Web Filtering

Full Description

The Shakopee School District filters staff and students to ensure a safe and learning friendly environment.  This is accomplished through the use of industry standard use of web site classification into categories and enforcement of safe search (Google, Bing, Yahoo).

  • Staff
    • devices are filtered when connected to District wireless or wired connections.
    • Following categories are blocked:
      • Adult / Malware / Nudity / Peer-to-Peer / Phishing / Proxy-Avoidance-and-Anonymizers / Web-advertisments
      • In addition to standard above listed categories the District maintains a Global Block (Black List) and Global Allow (White List)
    • Following categories are allowed to be continued to upon acceptance of risk (page will offer a continue button to proceed):
      •  Abused-drugs / Gambling / Hacking / Questionable / Weapons
    • If a site needs to be blocked/unblocked (white listed) it may be submitted via the Helpdesk.
      • Web Filter Request under Common Service Requests

 

  • Student
    • devices are filtered 100% of the time via a loop (proxy) back into the District network.
    • Following categories will be blocked:
      • Abused-drugs / Adult / Gambling / Hacking / Malware / Nudity / Peer-to-Peer / Phishing / Proxy-Avoidance-and-Anonymizers / Questionable / Weapons / Web-advertisments
      • In addition to standard above listed categories the District maintains a Global Block (Black List) and Global Allow (White List)
    • If access to a site that is blocked/blocked is needed they will need to submit it via a staff member in Helpdesk.
