Gmail in Outlook on Macbook

Full Description

When you initially setup your Macbook you will add your account. Submit a helpdesk ticket if you need help with this account. 

Setting up email Signatures

Adding Gmail to your Outlook mailbox:

  1. Go to your email on the web by signing into Google and going to mail. 
  2. When in Gmail, click on the gear on the far right and choose settings. 
  3. Click on the Forwarding and Pop Mail tab at the top of the page. 
  4. Make sure that the Disable Forwarding button at the top of the page is selected.
  5. Scroll down to IMAP access and match the settings to those shown below.

Make sure you click on Save Changes.

 Next go into Outlook. 

  1. Click on the Outlook Menu in the upper left corner and select Preferences. Then click on Accounts. 
  2. Click on the Plus button in the lower left corner. Select Other Email
  3. Type in your email address. When you click into password the window will expand.
  4. Match the settings to those below, replacing 'yourusername' with your actual username. Make sure all check boxes and port numbers are the same (check the boxes first) and that you enter your Google password (which should be the same as your computer login password) correctly.

Hit Add account. Then in the accounts window that shows next, select More Options below the outgoing server settings

In this window select Use Incoming Server Info from the top drop down and click OK.

After you hit OK, toward the top of the screen there is a box for Full name that likely says "Shakopee Public Schools." Change it to your full name.

Your account should now work! Close the accounts window with the red dot in the upper left corner, and you should see both your and inboxes on the left side. You can select Inbox to see both in the same place, or individually select either one for only the emails from that account.

If you notice that Outlook prompts you for your password often, open your applications folder, find the Microsoft Office folder, right-click on Outlook and click "Get Info." Check the box that says "Prevent App Nap."
