Canvas: Getting Started

Full Description

Designed specifically for K-12 teachers and students, Canvas is an easy-to-use, cloud-based learning management system (LMS) that connects all the digital tools and resources teachers use into one simple place. It integrates seamlessly with hundreds of apps, empowering teachers and students with countless tools to make teaching and learning easier and more fun.

Both students and teachers log into Canvas using their standard computer login username (ID number for students) and password. 

Canvas has a wonderful guide that can get you started on just about anything. They also have a host of video tutorials

Setting Up Your ProfileFollow the steps in the link at left the first time you login to Canvas to make sure your profile is set up the way you want it. 

Set Up Your Courses: Follow the steps below each semester to set up your courses. 

Import Content From Another Course

  1. Go to the course you wish to import content into.
  2. On the right hand side click "Import Content into this Course"
  3. In "Content Type" select "Copy a Canvas Course"
  4. Select the course, and then determine if you want to upload an entire course or specific content. You may also adjust the due dates for the imported content

Set Your Home Page Default

Change the Navigation for Your Course.

  1. Go to the course where you would like to update the navigation tabs
  2. Click on "Settings" located on the bottom left side of the page
  3. Click on Naviagation located at the top middle of the page
  4. Drag and drop items you want visble to students
  5. Watch this 1 minute video describing the process
